Analyzing segregation of informal residents in Latin American Cities’ periphery using Remote Sensing

The urban pattern has changed significantly in Latin American cities over the last decades. Since 1980s, policies have increased periphery land value, promoting suburbanization that restricted spaces for informal settlers. study used Landsat imagery to analyze if changes Bogota, Colombia and Sao Paulo, Brazil forced settlements move closer environmental risk areas or with limited mobility. This research a stratified supervised classification locate formal developments 2000 2018, followed by multiple criteria evaluation categorize mobility area. results revealed segregation of is not generalized city but localized phenomenon encouraged policies.
